Successful Applications of the 7th Round Urban Renewal Heritage Preservation and District Revitalisation Funding Scheme

The Urban Renewal Fund (URF) announced today (2 July 2026) that the URF Board of Directors approved the following two projects under the 7th Round “Urban Renewal Heritage Preservation and District Revitalisation Funding Scheme” at its 89th Board Meeting held on 31 March 2026. Both projects commence on 2 July 2026:

 

Approved Project 1

Project Name: Rejuvenating Cheung Sha Wan Together

Project Organiser: Hong Kong Community Experience Limited

Funding Period: 12 months

Approved Funding Amount: HK$1,500,000

Expected Impact:

  • By integrating innovative streetscape design and spatial utilisation, inject new vitality into the traditional district of Cheung Sha Wan, creating a forward-looking blueprint for community revitalisation.
  • Strengthen connections and collaboration among residents, local merchants, and stakeholders, building a robust community network, a strong sense of belonging, and a spirit of mutual support.
  • By revitalising and connecting distinctive streets and back alleys, effectively attract foot traffic, boost the economic viability of local businesses, and achieve sustainable district development.

 

 

Approved Project 2

Project Name: Shau Kei Wan: Traces of the Sea

Project Organiser: SOTI Design Studio Limited

Funding Period: 18 months

Approved Funding Amount: About HK$1,700,000

Expected Impact:

  • Through public art, murals, and signage for the heritage trail, the local cultural context of “temples, fishing, and coastline” in Shau Kei Wan will be re-presented, enabling residents and visitors to appreciate, in their daily street environments, the connections between the historical coastline, fishermen’s livelihoods, and temple worship practices. No fewer than 1,800,000 participants are expected.
  • About 17 intangible cultural heritage education and community cultural events, including school workshops, oral history sharing sessions with the elderly, community guided tours, film screenings, and exhibitions. These events are expected to benefit no fewer than 2,000 participants, fostering intergenerational exchange and community identity.
